ActiveFusion Multi-Biometric Technology

ActiveFusion Multi-Biometric Technology is a new approach to applying multiple biometrics within large-scale identity management systems. ActiveFusion fuses different biometric modalities to enhance recognition accuracy as measured by false acceptance and false rejection rates, and also brings new system-level exception handling capabilities to high- security applications and the biometric technology that supports it. The component level biometric offerings of the past were fine for lab demonstrations, but real-world problems need more than an accurate and automated yes/no decision from a black box. And only ActiveID provides all of it, in application or SDK form.

ActiveFusion technology treats individual features like facial shape elements and fingerprint minutiae as vectors in a common multidimensional feature space, and seeks the best overall match within that universe, taking into account the system's confidence in each feature. For any given size database population, this multidimensionality results in a much more sparsely populated universe of feature combinations, enabling more reliable identity matching or exclusion.

ActiveFusion technology also reduces exceptions in high-security applications by supporting conditional identification acceptance logic, such as "accept user if any one or two fingers plus 3D face are confirmed as matches". It eliminates the possibility of spoofing a fingerprint sensor. The audit trail it creates can even be used to automate maintenance calls.

ActiveFusion technology has been installed and proven at a US Government facility operating at a false acceptance rate of 0.002%. It currently supports fingerprints and/or 2D facial recognition within Geometrix ActiveID biometric identity systems using FaceVision 3D face recognition technology. The ActiveID platform supports straightforward integration of additional biometric modalities such as hand geometry, voice, or iris - depending on user needs.
